Festival Mozaic Winter Intermezzo Notable Encounter
End of the Line Cafe, San Luis Obispo, CA

Tablas Creek is honored to sponsor Festival Mozaic again in 2009. Our first event is the unique "notable encounter", where wine country, culinary craftsmanship and the festival’s virtuoso musicians converge in a casual café-style musical tasting menu. You’ll enjoy an intimate buffet dinner paired with Tablas Creek wines with the guest artists and fellow music lovers before sitting down for a one-hour ‘insider’s perspective’, as the musicians play, talk and engage with you on this season’s great chamber music. Tickets for this unique cultural and culinary opportunity are just $80, and available on the Festival Mozaic Web site. Get tickets for the next day's concert at the same time!

Warm Winter Wednesday

We conclude our 2008 Warm Winter Wednesday series with a tasting we've titled, for lack of more concise description, "cool, weird varietals introduced to California by Tablas Creek". We'll taste single-varietal examples and a couple of blends from Vermentino, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Mourvedre, Counoise and Tannat. There is even a rumor that the 2008 Picpoul Blanc may make an appearance out tank. For more information, and updates as future themes are announced, check back here or join our mailing list.

American Farmstead Cheeses Wine and Food Pairing Seminar

Join Tablas Creek and master chef Jeff Scott for a tasting of artisan and farmstead cheeses, produced in small batches and made exclusively by American producers. Cheeses from small farms in Vermont, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Louisiana and California will be featured, and Winemaker Neil Collins will discuss the wine pairing possibilities. Don't miss this rare opportunity to taste some of the country's best cheeses paired with Tablas Creek wines. Seating is limited and reservations are required. The cost is $40 for VINsiders and $50 for their guests. Contact Nicole Getty at events@tablascreek.com or 805.237.1231 x39 for reservations.

Saturday, March 21 10:00 AM
Far Out Wineries ZIN Summit VIII

No, we don’t make a Zinfandel, but we won’t let that prevent us from enjoying the Zinfandel Festival! We’ll be pouring at the eighth annual “Zinfandel and More” (we’re the “and more”!) seminar, organized by the Far Out Wineries. The seminar will include a walk-around tasting of current releases and barrel samples produced by the fifteen members of the Far Out Wineries as well as smaller break-out seminar sessions. The event will be held in the caves at Justin Winery, and the cost is $55 per person. Contact Judy for reservations or more information at 805.237.0138.

After the seminar, join Tablas Creek winemakers and staff for free al pastor tacos at the winery, Saturday starting at noon. The tacos are delicious, and free with your tasting fee. Reservations are not required.

Friday-Sunday, May 15-17
Paso Robles Wine Festival

Begin wine festival weekend with a Friday evening winemaker dinner at the wonderful Cass House Inn & Restaurant in Cayucos, CA. The four-course, five-wine dinner is just $92, and limited to forty reservations. [Read about our dinner with Cass House from last summer.] The dinner is sold out, although the Cass House is maintaining a waiting list. For more information, or to get on the waiting list, contact Cass House at 805.995.3669.

On both Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, we will be pouring at the park as a part of the Paso Robles Wine Festival. Be sure to come by to check out our new releases!

Finally, on the Sunday of Wine Festival, we will be welcoming Chef Jeff Scott back to the vineyard for a cured salmon tasting. Come early on Sunday and enjoy different cured salmons, homemade bread, and pair them with the newly released Rosé. We will serve the fish from 10:00am until it’s gone, but we don’t expect it to last past 11:30am, so come early! This event is free with a tasting fee and no reservations are necessary.

Saturday, June 13th, 9:00 AM
Vineyard Planting Seminar

In past years, our vineyard planting seminars have focused on planting dormant vines in mid-winter. For the 2009 seminar, we turn our focus to green-growing vines. Tablas Creek founder Bob Haas made his reputation by introducing the American wine market to the great estates of Burgundy, and jumped at the chance to add high quality Pinot Noir clones the Tablas Creek nursery. This summer, we’ll be planting a few more rows of Pinot Noir in the vineyard, and you’re invited to join in! Neil Collins, Winemaker and Vineyard Manager, will lead attendees in some hands-on planting, as well as a discussion of vineyard development issues, including irrigation, vine spacing, rootstock selection, and more. We’ll finish the morning with a field lunch, prepared by our vineyard crew. The event is free for VINsiders and $15 for guests. Contact Nicole Getty at events@tablascreek.com or 805.237.1231 x39 for reservations.

Saturday, July 18, 10:00 AM
Screwcap and Cork Comparative Tasting

At Tablas Creek, we have been bottling the same wines in cork and in screwcap since the 2002 vintage. We've found it fascinating to taste these wines side by side and see what contributions the cork and screwcap closure each makes. [You can read an account of one of these tastings on the Tablas Creek blog.] For the first time, we'll be opening up this experience to the public, and blind-tasting examples of the same wines bottled in both cork and screwcap, discussing what we see and how we make the decisions on what wines to put under what closure. General manager Jason Haas and winemaker Neil Collins will lead the tasting and discussion. The cost is $30 for VINsiders and $40 for guests, and will include a selection of meats, cheeses and salads. Contact Nicole Getty at events@tablascreek.com or 805.237.1231 x39 for reservations.

Saturday, July 25, 6:30pm
Festival Mozaic Notable Encounter at Hearst Castle

Tablas Creek is honored to sponsor Festival Mozaic again in 2009. In July, we will be joining with the Friends of Hearst Castle to present a unique "notable encounter", a dinner and one-hour performance with in-depth commentary from the musicians. Enjoy sumptuous hors d'oeuvres paired with Tablas Creek wines and a Pacific sunset on the Neptune Terrace before adjourning to the Hearst Castle Theater at the hilltop for an intimate presentation of Stravinsky's Octet for Winds. Tickets for this amazing cultural and culinary opportunity are $175, and attendance is limited to 100 guests. Tickets are available by calling Festival Mozaic at 877.881.8899 or 805.781.3009. Read more on the Festival Mozaic Web site.

Saturday, August 22, 6:00pm
Pig Roast

At Tablas Creek, we love terrific parties, especially when they involve great food, charming company, and, of course, wonderful wines. To that end, we’re hosting our annual pig roast to celebrate the beginning of harvest and the release of the 2007 Mourvèdre. Join us for roast pork with all the accompaniments. This is a casual outdoor party, just right for summer in the vineyard. The cost is $55 for VINsiders and $70 for guests. Space is limited and reservations are essential -- this is one of our most popular events and sells out quickly! Contact Nicole Getty at events@tablascreek.com or 805.237.1231 x39 for reservations.

Saturday, September 19 6:00-8:00pm
VINsider Shipment Tasting Party
VINsiders Only (and their invited guests)

VINsiders are invited to join us for our semi-annual shipment tasting party here at the vineyard on Saturday, September 19th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Pick up your fall 2009 shipment while you join us for a tasting of the wines in the offering, including the sensational 2007 Esprit de Beaucastel. All the wines from the shipment will be available for an additional 5% off that night only. The event is free for VINsiders and $15 for their guests. Please contact Nicole Getty at 805.237.1231 x39 or events@tablascreek.com for reservations or more information.

Saturday, October 3rd, 9:00 am
Harvest and Winemaking Seminar

Winemaker and Vineyard Manager Neil Collins will lead this seminar on grape analysis, harvest and winemaking. He and the Tablas Creek vineyard and cellar staff walk participants through the process of testing grapes for ripeness, both through traditional examination of physiological characteristics and more modern chemical analyses of sugars, acids, and pH. Participants who wish to do so will have an opportunity to work for about an hour in the harvest, followed by a hands-on demonstration of the destemming process and typical cellar techniques including hand punch-downs and pump-overs of fermenting tanks. The day will conclude with a field lunch prepared by our vineyard crew. The event is free for VINsiders and $20 for guests. Space is limited and reservations are required; contact Nicole Getty at events@tablascreek.com or 805.237.1231 x39.

October 16th-18th
Paso Robles Harvest Wine Tour Weekend

Celebrate Harvest Wine Tour Weekend with Tablas Creek. Join us all weekend for tastings including selections from our new VINsider club shipment such as the spectacular 2007 Esprit de Beaucastel. Tours will run Friday-Sunday at 10:30am, 12:00 noon and 2:00pm; no reservations are necessary.

On Saturday, join the owners and winemakers from the eclectic group of 17 Far Out Wineries at Opolo Vineyards for the educational and fun Best of the West seminar, Saturday, October 17th at 10:00 am. Each winery will showcase one noteworthy wine as they impart insight into their winemaking philosophy and vineyard operation. It is sure to be an impressive line up of wines, and a memorable collection of personalities! The price is $55 per person and tickets are on sale now. For reservations, contact Judy at Norman Vineyards at 805.237.0138.

Finally, on Saturday afternoon, Señor Camacho is back with his famous al pastor tacos. These delicious tacos will be served from noon to 3pm and are free with a tasting fee. No reservations are necessary.

Saturday, November 7, 2009, 6:30pm
Festival Mozaic Notable Encounter at "Villa Filaree" in Arroyo Grande

Tablas Creek is honored to sponsor Festival Mozaic in 2009. In November, we will again be participating in the annual WinterMezzo. On Saturday, November 7th, we are co-sponsoring a unique "notable encounter", a dinner and one-hour performance with in-depth commentary from the musicians. Attendees will take in the stunning views offered at this spectacular home in Arroyo Grande and enjoy pre-dinner wine and hors d’ oeuvres on the covered patio, and a gourmet buffet dinner accompanied by Tablas Creek Vineyard wines. Then, we will all sit back as the musicians take us inside the music, illuminating these three featured works. Tickets are $90 and attendance is limited to 70. For tickets or more information, visit http://www.festivalmozaic.com/wintermezzo.html or call Festival Mozaic at 805.781.3009.

Friday through Sunday, November 27-29
Holiday Open House

Saturday, December 5
En Primeur Tasting and Futures Offering

VINsiders are invited to join Tablas Creek’s winemakers for the sixth annual barrel tasting and sale en primeur of Tablas Creek’s remarkable red wines from the outstanding 2008 vintage. Offering wine en primeur is a time-honored French tradition most often associated with first-growth Bordeaux estates. In outstanding vintages, valued customers are offered the opportunity to secure a limited quantity of sought-after wines at a special price in advance of bottling and subsequent general release. On December 5th, attendees will join Tablas Creek's winemakers at one of three sessions (11:00am, 1:00pm, or 3:00pm) to taste the 2008 Esprit de Beaucastel and 2008 Panoplie, to discuss the vintage, and to enjoy a seasonal dish created to pair with the wines. The $25 cost to attend the event is refundable on any en primeur purchase.

VINsiders should have received an invitation and reservation form in the mail in early November; the deadline to reserve for the tasting is Monday, November 30th, and to order futures en primeur December 7th. For a PDF version of the futures order form, click here.
