When we founded Tablas Creek, we knew we wanted to plant the
8 principal varietals of the Southern Rhone Valley: Mourvedre, Grenache, Syrah, and Counoise for reds, and Roussanne, Marsanne, Viognier, and Grenache Blanc for the whites.
Unfortunately, two of these varietals (Counoise and Grenache Blanc) didn't exist in California, and three others (Mourvedre, Grenache, and Roussanne) were of unknown provenance. To ensure we had the highest quality virus-free clonal material, we imported from Beaucastel all eight varietals.
Our varietals, both vinifera and rootstocks, were selected by Château de Beaucastel and specially imported for use in our vineyard. Our
vinifera nurseries and rootstock fields are grown on-site in rich valley land near the winery. Our vines are propagated in greenhouses and shadehouses at Tablas Creek.
We sell
vinifera budwood to interested wineries around California and around the United States, and have partnered with NovaVine of Sonoma, CA to provide
grafted vines. Vineyards as far away as Virginia, Texas, and Washington State have planted Tablas Creek material.
